What they do
The NSW Mental Health Line is a free 24/7 statewide phone service that links people of all ages with NSW Health mental health services.
When you call the line, a trained mental health professional will:
- Conduct a brief mental health assessment
- Offer mental health advice where appropriate
- If applicable, make recommendations for further care, including referrals to NSW Health mental health services.
The NSW Mental Health Line is not a counselling or one-off crisis support service.

Who they're for
The NSW Mental Health Line is for anyone worried about their or someone else's mental health.
This may be due to:
- Changes in mood that worry you or others
- Significant changes to personal hygiene or motivation
- Difficulties concentrating
- Getting confused about what is real and what is not
- Behaviour like laughing or smiling at something others can't see or hear
- Feelings of panic, like something bad is about to happen
- Intense anxiety
- Thoughts or actions of self-harm or suicide
- Thoughts of harming someone else.
Health professionals, teachers, NGO workers, and first responders may also contact the NSW Mental Health Line to find out which services might be best for a patient/client/student.
