What is the Managing Panic Program?

The Managing Panic Program is a free self-guided online learning program from Mental Health Online that provides information on panic disorder, panic attacks, and agoraphobia.

The program will help you:

  • Understand and identify the symptoms of panic disorder
  • Monitor and reduce your specific panic symptoms and mood indicators
  • Gain control of physical reactions through relaxation techniques
  • Learn to cope with panic attacks while reducing their occurrence
  • Boost your wellbeing by making lifestyle changes.

Who is the Panic Program for?

The Managing Panic Program is available for Australian residents over the age of 18 and may be helpful for people who experience mild to moderate panic symptoms (with or without agoraphobia) or for anyone who:

  • Experiences physical panic symptoms such as pounding heart, shortness of breath, upset stomach, chest pain, excessive sweating, numbness and tingling, and/or feeling dizzy or faint
  • Worries about things that might happen in the future
  • Has a general sense of dread or doom
  • Is self-conscious about other people looking at, or talking about them
  • Feels like they’re experiencing repetitive or excessive thoughts about particular events (this is also called ruminating).

If you’re unsure if the Managing Panic Program is right for you, you can complete Mental Health Online’s mental health assessment, e-PASS, which will make recommendations about which program(s) might be better suited for you.

Remember that anxiety is a treatable condition. There are many things that you can do to feel better in the moment, as well as long-term strategies that work to treat panic attacksLifeline is always here for you if you want to speak to someone.

How does the Managing Panic Program help?

Consisting of 12 self-paced modules that can be completed over the course of 12 months, the Managing Panic Program uses principles from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help you:
